I am a graphic and web designer, with an interest in design research as well. First springing from my lifelong interest in music, I have always wanted a creative career. I first became interested in design in my teenage years, when I would get excited whenever TV stations would update their graphics. What appealed to me about graphic design was that it provided an opportunity to work in a creative field in a way that could play a part in helping organizations succeed.
One semester at Sacramento City College, I signed up for a class called “Introduction to Web Page Creation and Web Accessibility.” I could not have foreseen the impact it would have on everything I’ve designed since. Being disabled myself, the need for greater digital accessibility resonated deeply, and I found my passion. Certain elements, like ensuring readable color contrast, are applicable not just to the web but to any sort of design. I pride myself on designing around accessibility from the start of a project, not as an afterthought once the visual design is in place.
Beyond design, I enjoy sim racing and listening to and composing music.

AI can only go so far
While there are AI powered plug-ins that advertise correcting accessibility errors on existing sites, there is no substitute for direct testing. Before I launch a website, I thoroughly test functionality with keyboard-only navigation and VoiceOver. And if I can’t solve the problems I encounter, I’ll be sure to let you know what to look out for.
